Pancreas

Pancreatic diseases are diseases that affect the pancreas, an organ in the human body located in the abdomen. The pancreas plays a role in the digestive and endocrine system, producing enzymes which aid the digestion process and the hormone insulin, which regulates blood sugar levels.

Pancreatic Insufficiency can be caused by Chronic or Acute Pancreatitis, Cystic Fibrosis, Crohn’s Disease, Celiac Disease, and, of course, Pancreatic Cancer. Technically, diabetes is not a disease of the pancreas.

The absolute worst disease of the pancreas is pancreatic cancer of which there are two major types. Over 90% are Adenocarcinoma of the Pancreas which occurs in the “exocrine portion”of the pancreas which is its “digestive function”. Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma has the worst survival rates of all major types of cancer.
